Match Report – Sept 11th

Brownhills Community Colts  5 v 2  Stonnall Phoenix

Charlie, DJ

Despite a second half fightback by Stonnall, Brownhills deservedly won the game after scoring four times in the first half.

Stonnall started the game brightly with good possession but were unable to force a breakthrough. Colts took the lead after 12 mins as the result of a penalty and three minutes later a second penalty was awarded but Alfie made a save to keep the score at 1:0. However, a good break down the right wing and accurate cross into the box was finished clinically to make the score 2:0 to Brownhills in the 16th minute.

Phoenix didn’t panic and were still playing mainly in Brownhills’ half with the home side playing on the break. After a succession of corners, the home side added a third goal and then made it 4:0 just before half time.

The second half saw a debut for Alex on the left of midfield. After the half time manager’s talk, the team were playing better and were rewarded after 53 mins when Charlie capitalised on an error to get one goal back. Brownhills scored once more on the break to deny any possible comeback before DJ, who was doing well on the right wing finished well into the corner of the net for Stonnall’s second goal of the game on 65 mins.

The game  finished with Stonnall Phoenix still searching for further consolation but to no avail and were beaten by the better team over 70 minutes.

Message from the Manager

This was definitely a game of two halves.
First half we just didn’t turn up 😕 being 4 down at half time was evident we weren’t working and playing our football, take nothing away from today’s opponents Brownhills Community Colts they deserved this half time lead.
Second half was different – we won this 2-1, to give away careless unorganised goals is a first for us – this is football lads. Heads up lots of positives to discuss and many negatives to work on.
I have awarded DJ MOTM for today’s game – well done DJ.
He came on at half time and created some great chances with energy and determination he got himself on the score sheet.
Well done to Charlie for changing his attitude in the second half and pushing his team on, also got a goal for his efforts.
Never let results matter – enjoy it!
See you Saturday 👍⚽️
Neil
