Stonnall Phoenix 3 : 4 Tipton Youth
Harry, Squiggy, Charlie
Tipton emerged winners of this close Cup match with a last minute goal after a fighting comeback by Stonnall.
After the opening 10 minutes where both teams enjoyed their share of possession and chances, it was Tipton who broke the deadlock in the 12th minute with a neat finish. Phoenix created more half chances, but the visitors made it 0:2 with a shot from outside the area after a quick break in the 26th minute.
Despite this, Stonnall were still passing the ball well and following pressure around the Tipton box won a free kick in the 30th minute. Charlie played the free kick into the box where it eventually bounced up to Harry who hooked the ball into the net for 1:2.
The second half continued in the same vain with Phoenix attacking and the new formation of four at the back mainly repelling Tipton breaks until a cut in from the right gave the opposition attacker a chance on goal which he took to make the score 1:3 in the 39th minute.
Stonnall, however, never gave up and after defending a Tipton corner, the ball was played by Bezza through to Squiggy who scored low into the corner of the net. Then, two minutes later in the 50th minute, the ball fell to Charlie in the box who equalised, 3:3.
Phoenix were on top now, buoyed by their fightback and were looking for a winner to avoid extra time with a struggling Alfie in goal who was injured in making a smothering save earlier. Chances came for both sides but in the last minute a Tipton shot resulted in the ball creeping into the net following a save.
The whistle blew for full time seconds later with the away side progressing to the next round of the cup.
Stonnall Phoenix can take heart from a battling performance to fight back from two goals down and can approach next week’s league game with renewed confidence.

Message from the Manager
A great game played by two very good footballing teams.
Today we started very well and played the majority of the first half in our opponents half, a much better start than of latter part of last season.
To keep things within the team Squiggy did exactly what I asked of him and how to play his position – this had great effect.
Alfie’s kicks were much improved and almost reaching the edge of the opponents box, also came quickly off his line to the feet – very brave saves.
To come from 3-1 down to 3-3 was great character, to lose 4-3 was most unfortunate.
On the whole a great game – a draw would’ve been the fair result, but well done to Tipton.
Just a couple of reminders:
The keeper is the last line of defence.
Attitude and body language speaks volumes.
Very pleased with the performance lads.
MOTM This is awarded to Dylan – played three solid games at centre of defence. Last two games just being pipped by Mac and DJ.
Met the ball with determined headers and brought the ball out and found a pass.
Well done Dylan, thank you for your efforts.
We didn’t deserve to lose this game, we played loads better than the last two games. We need to put more tackles in in midfield and stop making basic mistakes.
Well done Dylan, deserved MOTM, great saves Alfie keep going, huge kicks – Mac get on the end of them! Lol
