Match Report – Sept 25th

Stonnall Phoenix   0:2   Bustleholme FC

Bustleholme overcame Phoenix with a goal in each half whilst the home side were unlucky not to score.

The visitors started well and were putting pressure on Stonnall’s defence but Zack, Dylan and Crusher held firm and when Bustleholme were able to shoot at goal, Alfie was on hand to deal with the attack with good handling.

It was the away side though who got the breakthrough on 27 minutes when the right winger found the net with a cross/shot for 0:1. Stonnall rallied well and gradually came more into the game but couldn’t find an equaliser before half-time.

After the break, Stonnall continued to find more half chances and shots from Charlie and DJ came close and indeed the captain then hit the bar with a spectacular free kick. Although Bustleholme had few chances in the second half, they made it 0:2 with a run and shot in the area in the 49th minute.

After that, despite a run and shot across goal by Harry and the majority of the play being in the opponent’s half, Phoenix couldn’t find the net and the game ended with victory for Bustleholme.

Message from the Manager

From last week’s uplifting performance it was a little frustrating that we couldn’t build on it, however results of games don’t always give a true reflection.

Unfortunate to concede the first goal – if the player tried that a thousand times it wouldn’t go in, but it did! Could we have done more in our defensive position?

You have to decide and make this decision.

Second goal was deservedly so.

With two of our chances brushing the post and a great free kick hitting the bar we had our chances – maybe luck isn’t with us at the moment.

We have to give more effort lads, interest from some seems to have diminished, leaving a work load for others.

Alfie – great kicks and very fast off your line, the extra training seems to have paid off.

Dylan, Tom and Zack were exceptional as a back three covering well for ever present hard working Sedgy.

Speedy recovery for Sedgy and Benno – hope you’re back this week.

MOTM this week was awarded to Zack – headed every ball that came to him, constantly talked to his team, rarely caught out of position and topped it off with two fantastically timed sliding tackles. Well done Zack, thoroughly deserved award.

Captains comments:

Not a good team effort. Players don’t tackle enough, if we keep giving the ball away we will have to keep winning it back.

Well done Zack great man of the match.

Charlie
