Stonnall Phoenix 1:2 Tipton Youth
The last game for Stonnall this year saw them challenging the league leaders again and following the two previous close encounters in league and cup, this match proved no less close.
For most of the first half, Phoenix displayed the type of attractive, one touch passing football that has been their hallmark. This was typified by a slick move out of defence, through an attacking midfield and having played a one-two, DJ jinked his way down the right to force a save from the opposing keeper.
More good interplay followed leading to Alex smacking a rasping shot off the post and DJ again shot across goal with the keeper deflecting the ball wide.
The three man defence was marshalled by the dependable Dylan who time and again headed clear or got in a tackle to ensure Alfie was largely untroubled. Tipton’s dangerous breaks were being dealt with capably but a dangerous free kick into the six yard box in the 26th minute came off a defender to give the visitors a 1:0 lead.
Shortly afterwards, Alfie spectacularly tipped another free kick past the post but Phoenix endeavoured to press for a deserved equaliser and determined play by Charlie lead to a corner after 34 mins. Squiggy played in the ball which found the captain positioned just outside the six yard box and he planted the ball into the net for a half time score of 1:1.
At the start of the second half, Tipton played with renewed vigour and in the 39th minute, a defensive mix-up allowed their dangerous forward the space to score what proved to be the winning goal. The home side carved out good opportunities in the remainder of the game including Charlie hitting the post from a free kick, but Tipton defended well to finish the game with a 2:1 victory.

Message from the Manager
After many training sessions regarding communication this must be the game to learn why communication can be so important.
With most of the first half dominated by us playing excellent football we conceded through a lack of communication.
Well done to Charlie for taking up his position were he put a neat volley away to get the team level.
Unfortunately through another lack of communication we conceded another!
We must start to communicate lads, you will not get the results you want if you continue to leave it out of your game.
On a more positive note Charlie drove his team forward from his role behind two strikers, in the first half DJ was unplayable with great energy on the right wing.
With Harry missing from his regular place alongside Dylan in defence and Jacko who was inspirational in the same fixture previously we had to dig in with only one sub which against Tipton is difficult.
Dylan was brilliant in central defence not for the first time, for this performance I have awarded Dylan MOTM – well done Dylan on a splendid calm but solid performance, very Rio Ferdinand’ish.
We have a well earned break now over Christmas and new year.
Our next training session will be Sat 7th Jan 10 – 12 with Brereton away on the 8th
For those who will be at the players Christmas meal I will see you there other than that I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas.
