Match Report – June 6th
Pelsall Villa Colts 5:1 Stonnall Phoenix
Pelsall overcame Stonnall despite the visitors scoring first.
Phoenix started well and were the first to strike on 6 mins after Liam’s throw in was snatched upon by Jenko who drove into the 6 yard box where Jordan took advantage to prod home his seventh goal of the season.
The away side were good value for the lead and the enterprising Nathan got on the end of Liam’s pass from midfield following good work by Sam and Dillan.
Unfortunately, Phoenix couldn’t build on the lead and Pelsall equalised on 16 mins and quickly took the lead two mins later. Stonnall were still able to carve out half chances and again Nathan, playing at wing back, roamed into a good position to get on the end of Jordan’s knock on after another long Liam throw.
A lot of Stonnall’s incisive play came from dead ball situations and Ennis tried a free kick from distance whilst Jenko was characteristically busy in his forward supporting role.
Pelsall scored again after 33 mins and it remained 3:1 at half time.
Phoenix held firm defensively in the opening exchanges of the second half and Harry and Jordan combined well for Nathan to try his luck and then Ross carried the ball forward bullishly from defence before being closed down.
The hosts effectively took the result away from Stonnall with their fourth goal after 68 mins and finished off with another three minutes before the final whistle.
Sam had a shot from another Liam throw in between the goals and it capped another improved gutsy performance by Sam who is finding his feet with greater determination and positivity in the last few games.
The final score was 5:1 but chances were more even than the score suggests. If Phoenix could have taken more chances the result could have been different.

Man of the Match
Players who can play in a variety of positions are important to the adaptability of the team formation. Two players who demonstrated that quality in this match are Nathan and Jenko. Nathan got into a number of good positions to be a threat going forward and Jenko was competitive and determined. Both players linked up well with Jordan up front and are awarded this week’s MOTM. Well done Nathan and Jenko.
