Message from the Chairman

This will be the fourth season of Stonnall Juniors, where has the time gone and where have all those little players gone?
We have three teams competing again this season in the WJYL.
I’m sure our teams and players will be very well encouraged and supported along with the opposition too.
Although the teams are in competitive leagues where honours and silver wear are up for grabs the most important thing is that the players enjoy their time playing.
Too many times, and still now players are put under immense pressure to perform with little or no enjoyment.
I’m sure this isn’t the case at Stonnall Juniors where the coaches know that happiness and enjoyment is paramount to player progression.
I’m sure you will all join me in wishing the players a successful, injury free and of course an enjoyable season for 2017/18.

Neil Richards
Chairman Stonnall Juniors FC

Kit on for Pudsey Day

On Sunday Nov 20th Stonnall Juniors U13 team, Stonnall Phoenix raised money for Children in Need for our first ‘Kit on for Pudsey Day’

The players’ parents and supporters were invited to wear an item of replica football kit, hat or scarf of their favourite football team in return for a donation of £1.00. Also, hot drinks and homemade cakes were sold to home and away supporters.

The total amount raised was £52.00.

Thank you to all the parents and supporters.

As you can see from the photo, Leeds United supporters nearly outnumbered those of Aston Villa. Indeed, even the Manager was an honorary Leeds fan for the day so he could experience supporting a big club!

Footgolf Day – 9th Oct

With no fixture today Stonnall Phoenix players, parents brothers and sisters enjoyed a round or two of foot golf with a little competition of course!

The scores went from very respectable to “I lost count” and any other excuse that could be thought of!
Well done to Mick, Squiggy’s uncle who made a hole in one (that’s the fella on the right in grey) Mick has promised to buy everyone a drink the next time all those in the picture are in the same room!
The weather was great, the company and laughter even greater, thank you to everyone for a great fun afternoon.

Spring Cup Match report

Date: 23rd April 2016
Centre: Bustleholme
K/o: 10.00am

Stonnall Phoenix 1:0 Wednesbury Sports Union
Mac 3mins

This was the penultimate game in the Spring Cup and one of Phoenix’s best results of the season.

The previous match against Wednesbury in a different competition had been won by the Div1 team 4:1 but Stonnall started this one on top with good pressure in the opposition half and the lads found the breakthrough in only the third minute. Harry’s ball infield to Charlie following a throw-in led to a shot from the captain which the keeper saved but Mac followed up well to score his third goal in four matches.

The rest of the first half saw the teams share possession and although the Wednesbury forwards were getting into good positions, Stonnall’s defensive line of Zac, Benno and Sedgy held firm, closing down and restricting space. When a shot did get through then Pembo was well positioned to save.

Stonnall were breaking forward well, particularly with Mac running on to the through balls or holding the ball up and playing in his teammates. On one such occasion, Charlie’s shot hit the crossbar and bounced down onto the goal line. Jacko also broke into the box after a persistent run and shot just over the bar.

The second half followed a similar pattern with chances at both ends but Phoenix’s defence proved resilient and Pembo was on top form with a number of match winning saves.

On the final whistle, the lads’ reaction showed they knew they had achieved a fantastic result against very good opposition.

Message from the Manager
Well done lads on a gritty determined performance against a team who ran out 4-1 winners the last time we met 4 games previously.
We have talked about tempo and method many times over the last several training sessions, playing these D1 teams has allowed you to witness/realise more than our conversations.
Remember we talked about discipline and concentration?
This was one of those games where it was needed.
Mac‘s patience and positioning is paying off with 3 in 4 games now, at the other end Pembo‘s kicks are helping the team to position themselves in a more positive set up, along with some great positional saves.
From Pembo to Mac and in between it was a great performance.
It was good to see Jacko working his way in to the box with great confidence, and Benno who had a really solid performance at centre of defence.
A very pleasing performance from every one.

MOTM: Due to the displays of both our striker and goal keeper I have decided to award Mackenzie and Pembo our Man Of The Match award.
Mac has now scored 3 in 4 and worked really well running through the channels against a good defender.
Pembo has worked hard on his goal kicks, made several quality saves and kept another clean sheet.
Well done lads.

Captains Comments
I thought we dug in well and fought and battled hard.
A great follow up from Mac gave us our goal, if it wasn’t for their number 3 I’m sure we would have scored more because we created loads of chances – he was a good defender.
