Stonnall Juniors U10s – October summary

October has been a real milestone month for us – it’s the first month where we have remained unbeaten. But it’s important that we don’t get caught up in results and that we keep our two objectives for this season in mind:

1. Improve our ball mastery, esp. use of both feet;
2. Improve game understanding & ability to play multiple positions.

If we do that, the results will take care of themselves. Parents will already be aware that at U10s we don’t always play in a league, with us instead being in pools according to ability. As a team, the aim for our second season together is to push into the upper pools. This time last year we had managed just two wins from our first 14 matches, so to only lose one of our last twelve matches is pleasing. Though I’m happy to lose if we learn from it — hence our futsal where the standard of opposition is high.

We are able to play in three Trophy Events per season and our October fixtures formed the Autumn Trophy Event. Well done for topping our group in the Walsall League (WJYFL) and for therefore reaching the semi-finals in November.

Looking ahead, our training will continue on Tuesdays and Saturdays to keep our 3.5 hours a week going. It’s also pleasing that we have additional players practising with us who already fit in very well with our playing philosophy. I’ll be keeping a keen eye on these guys in time for next season’s 9-a-side format.

Also, a big well done this month to Jude and Louis who have been training with West Bromwich Albion Development Squad U11s (and are therefore playing one year up). Happy Birthday also for this coming month to Jake and Elliot. It’s great that you two are having……… a futsal party of all things 🙂 It shows that you’re enjoying your football and the fact that you’ve invited all your team along shows that we’re making good friends which I hope you will keep for many years to come. So happy birthday, you two 🙂

Let’s keep up our hard work into November. Thanks also to Chris whose help has been invaluable.

Enjoy your football –

Mark 🙂

Coaching Congratulations

Congratulations to coaches Shaun McKenzie and Jamie Hawkes who have completed their FA Level 1 and FA Level 2 coaching badges respectively. This brings the number of Stonnall Juniors FC qualified coaches to five across our three teams.

England U21 match for Stonnall Juniors FC

Thanks to the fantastic initiative by the FA for all Charter Standard clubs, Stonnall Juniors were able to take players and families free of charge to the England U21s match against Croatia at Molyneux on Friday 10 October, 2014.

Club Welfare Officer, Mark Finney, said “it’s a very positive gesture from the FA to make England international games accessible to the most important group — the kids who’re playing the game — and the evening also helped the all-important social and psychological corners of their Long Term Player Development. It’s great to see players and parents from across our various teams enjoy a night out together and create a real club atmosphere.

SJFC granted FA Charter Standard
